SPUR® II - Disposable Resuscitator


Ambu SPUR II is the only single use resuscitator that is made from a SEBS polymer instead of PVC. This classifies Ambu SPUR II as environmentally safe and fully disposable, thus eliminating all risk of cross contamination. It is part of a complete family of resuscitators, including infant, pediatric, and adult sizes.


All Ambu SPURII resuscitators come in individual, resealable carrying bags, complete with one or more masks and any special accessories – color-coded for fast size identification.

The Bain circuit is a modification of the Mapleson D system. It is a co-axial system in which the fresh gas flows through a narrow inner tube within the outer corrugated tubing.


Essentially, the Bain circuit functions in the same way as the T-piece, except that the tube supplying fresh gas to the patient is located inside the reservoir tube.


Inspiration - The patient inspires fresh gas from the outer reservoir tube.


Expiration - The patient expires into the reservoir tube. Although fresh gas is still flowing into the system at this time, it is wasted, as it is contaminated by expired gas.


Expiratory pause - Fresh gas from the inner tube washes the expired gas out of the reservoir tube, filling it with fresh gas for the next inspiration.



Halothane (trademarked as Fluothane) is an inhalational general anesthetic. Its IUPAC name is 2-bromo-2-chloro-1,1,1-trifluoroethane. It is the only inhalational anesthetic agent containing a bromine atom; there are several other halogenated anesthesia agents which lack the bromine atom and do contain the fluorine and chlorine atoms present in halothane. It is colorless and pleasant-smelling, but unstable in light. It is packaged in dark-colored bottles and contains 0.01% thymol as a stabilizing agent. Halothane is a core medicine in the World Health Organization's "Essential Drugs List", which is a list of minimum medical needs for a basic health care system.[2] Its use in developed countries, however, has been almost entirely superseded by newer inhalational anaesthetic agents.

Isoflurane (2-chloro-2-(difluoromethoxy)-1,1,1-trifluoro-ethane) is a halogenated ether used for inhalational anesthesia. Together with enflurane and halothane, it replaced the flammable ethers used in the pioneer days of surgery. Its name comes from being a structural isomer of enflurane, hence they have the same empirical formula. It is a racemic mixture of (R) and (S) optical isomers. Its use in human medicine is now starting to decline, being replaced with sevoflurane, desflurane and the intravenous anaesthetic propofol. Isoflurane is still frequently used for veterinary anaesthesia.

The Profile Soft Seal Cuff provides optimum comfort for patients due to its larger cuff resting diameter. With minimal risk of trauma, the Soft Seal cuff is made from a velvet soft PVC material which, although being thin, is strong which reduces the risk of leakage and folding. When the cuff is inflated a large pilot balloon will be displayed. Cuff inflation is ensured due to a one-way valve which is spring-loaded. The clear endotracheal tube with Soft Seal cuff reduces any trauma risks while intubating and extubating, and ensures a minimum amount of contact with the tracheal mucosa. Increased cuff pressure stability is obtained by reduced nitrous oxide permeability levels.


The Profile Soft Seal® Cuff combines the benefits of the profile cuff design with a larger cuff resting diameter providing the patient with optimum comfort. The Soft Seal® cuff is made from velvet soft PVC material, giving minimal risk of trauma. Strong yet thin cuffed material reduces the risk of folding and leakage.

Sevoflurane (1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoro-2-(fluoromethoxy)propane), also called fluoromethyl hexafluoroisopropyl ether, is a sweet-smelling, nonflammable, highly fluorinated methyl isopropyl ether used for induction and maintenance of general anesthesia. Together with desflurane, it is replacing isoflurane and halothane in modern anesthesiology.[citation needed] It is often administered in a mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen. After desflurane, it is the volatile anesthetic with the fastest onset and offset.[1] Though desflurane has the lowest blood/gas coefficient of the currently used volatile anesthetics, sevoflurane is the preferred agent for mask induction due to its lesser irritation to mucous membranes.
